Challange of cfDNAs
Reliable early detection of cancer has potential to dramatically decrease global cancer mortality. Liquid biopsy is a non-invasive technique that enables to detect and to monitor cancer biomarkers in blood, urine and other body fluids at an early stage, even before symptoms appear. One of most valuable biomarker used in LB is cfDNA molecules, the extracellular DNA floating freely in the blood circulation. ccfDNA fragments are released from both healthy and tumour cells through various cell physiological events such as apoptosis, necrosis, and secretion. Although LB is progressing into an advanced and invaluable tool in cancer diagnostics, today the implementation of cfDNA biomarker-based early cancer diagnostic tests is extremely challenging because of the irreversible loss of ccfDNA biomarkers due to the inefficiency of pre-analytical workflow and commercial ccfDNA sample preparation kits.
